If you have had a chance to take a look at my annotated bibliography you should have become acutely aware that I pivoted my argument to the “support” of oil spills, in a the ends justify the means kind of way. Unfortunately nobody is protesting in favor of oil spills (can’t imagine why), and as a result there aren’t any protest signs that support my argument. So instead I will simply choose a sign that goes against my argument (a sign that does not support oil spills). The sign I found was one that said “BP lies, and the gulf dies” referring to the gulf spill in 2010. Its pretty clear what’s going on here, the woman is displeased that the corporation hid the extent of the spill from the public and as a result believes that the gulf is in imminent danger. Her sign does not mention what action she would like to be taken. If I were to make a protest sign for my topic it would say something along the lines of “money fixes everything” or “(insert corporation name) is forgiven” because one of the arguments that I am planning on making in my essay is that the payout that corporations are forced to pay is more than reasonable, and creates a net positive on the affected area. Furthermore money fixes everything and blank is forgiven are both very general statements and not particularly inspiring similar to the signs that I saw when looking for counter signs.
